Synergistic influence of tetraethyl orthosilicate crosslinker on mixed matrix hydrogels

Abstract Hydrogel is a 3D framework of hydrophilic polymeric material that quickly absorbs and retains huge amount water (or other fluid) offers versatile functionality. A series unique carboxymethyl cellulose/Xanthan gum/polyvinyl alcohol (CXP) blended hydrogels, containing both the natural synthetic polymers, were prepared by following blending casting approach. The polymers incorporated through chemical crosslinking tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). fabricated hydrogels showed all required features: non-toxicity, biocompatibility, improved mechanical strength. addition variation in TEOS (crosslinker) significantly impacted key characteristics CXP hydrogel. scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images porous structure indicated pore's size intensity reduced with surge content. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results confirmed successful incorporation various strands TEOS. thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) highlighted greater stability over high temperatures. crosslinked hydrogel displayed higher thermal resilience than uncross-linked one. differential (DTA) also content drastically enhanced endurance comparison neat All specimens exhibited good swelling ability distilled during studies. This study reflected crosslinker limited (50 µL) has but further increase concentration hindered uptake. response blends towards pH revealed low films acidic basic pH, maximal neutral media. at along biocompatibility made them suitable for injectable managed drug carrier.
